OUR CONVERTING RANGE

PETROFER has a broad range of regulatory compliant products for the converting of paper and board, improving quality and consumer appeal. We offer GLUES and adhesives for tissue, towel, paper and board production. Our technically advanced CUTTING FLUIDS are applied to the log saw to reduce frictional heat when cutting rolls, ensuring a clean cut without deposit build up on the blade. Our EMBOSSING ROLL LUBRICANTS & CLEANERS are used to prevent the build-up of glue and fibres on Embossing and Dandy rolls. The SOFTENERS & LOTIONS series can be sprayed onto the tissue surface improving softness and hand feel. For the corrosion inhibition on steel parts during shipping, PETROFER offers VOLATILE CORROSION INHIBITORS (VCI’s) to be added to the paper sheet to build up an inert atmosphere, displacing oxygen and water when it is wrapped around goods.

PETROFER has many years of experience in converting. After studying the process parameters and customer needs, the ideal product is selected and dosage quantities are determined by our technical staff during trials at site, thus achieving optimal results. We are supported in expertise and know-how from our many other technical divisions within PETROFER globally. Our modern state of the art laboratories are equipped with highly specialised test devices for measuring relevant criteria. This data is essential for the best possible solution and is ideally complemented by our paper technology center.

OUR PRODUCT RANGE IN DETAIL

GLUES

GLUES with different properties from our COTAC G series and our COTAC TG/PG/E products are needed for the various production steps in hygienic paper manufacturing. PETROFER offers adhesives for labelling, card and paperboard surfaces, transfer glue for tissue paper on cardboard tubes, laminating glue for the ply adhesion, fast drying tail tie glue for the fixation of last tissue sheets and a wide range of core glues for small and industrial tubes.

SOFTENERS AND LOTIONS

For the end user the clearest sign of quality in tissue paper is the softness. PETROFER provides a wide range of SOFTLAYER products to improve surface softness and handfeel of tissue products. Our high performance and ready to use products achieve the best results and are sprayed directly onto the tissue sheet. We use different chemical bases and functionality to provide the optimum quality for every customer.

CUTTING FLUIDS

Clean cutting of paper and board is a quality factor in the converting process. A cutting fluid has to remove frictional energy and lubricate the saw blade. The SAWLUBE series from PETROFER lowers the temperature of cutting blades, keeps the metal surface clean and rust free, reduces wear and provides a long blade life. Additionally, it is ecofriendly based on water and is free of mineral oil while protecting all parts involved from corrosion.

EMBOSSING ROLL LUBRICANTS AND CLEANERS

Embossing is a key process within converting of tissue paper for the final quality and decorative effect. The embossing roll has to be kept free from dust and dirt, the tissue ply must not adhere to the surface of the roll and the embossing picture has to be detailed, fine and accurate. PETROFER offers its EMBOLUBE series in which all products fulfil these tasks with the benefit of having an anticorrosive effect. The converting machines operate in a dusty environment with a risk of fire. Therefore, our most recent innovative formulations are non-flammable, which improves occupational and environmental safety.

VOLATILE CORROSION INHIBITORS VCI

Metal containing products including cast iron and alloys, used for example in automotive engines, domestic goods, engineering components etc, must be protected against corrosion for long distance transport. They are often packaged using VCI or VPI paper, which is equipped with highly efficient corrosion inhibitors and additives. The PETROCOR product range by PETROFER offers solvent free, oil and water based rust preventatives for topical application to creped and flat paper, so producing high grade VCI packaging materials.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

A European customer with several converting lines had previously used oil products for the embossing process but was dissatisfied with how they were used. Statistically there was a fire 2 times a year, which was related to the usage of this product. The dosing quantities and costs were very high and the risk for workers was immense. Consequently, there was a great interest in a high quality and safer alternative. All converting lines were equipped with embossing rolls. The trial was carried out on the towel line with a machine of a leading manufacturer at a speed of approx. 550 m/min. The competitor product was mineral oil based with a low flash point. The product was applied via a brush onto the roller at 1.4 litres per hour. PETROFERs recommendation was the innovative EMBOLUBE 120 D, a water based, non-flammable product developed with a highly technical formulation using selected performance raw materials. The mineral oil was initially replaced 1:1 and due to the excellent performance, the dosing quantity could be reduced by 40%. The embossing roll was absolutely clean and the pattern was flawless. This resulted in higher machine efficiency and occupational safety. Due to these positive results, all lines were switched to Embolube 120 D with equal success.
