OUR PRODUCT RANGE IN DETAIL

QUENCHING OILS

With an extensive product portfolio PETROFER have oil type quenchants for achieving the desired metallurgical properties in heat treating across the wide range of metals, processes, temperatures and furnaces where a controlled cooling rate is required to achieve a specific hardening. This is acheived while reducing distortion, cracking and scale formation and providing dimensional stability and uni- form hardness even with different alloys. Quench Oils are offered in the following types: Accelerated, Hot Quenching, Biodegradable, Tempering, Vacuum and Normal Speed, along with special grades in water washable versions. In vacuum and Low Pressure Carburisation (LPC) heat treating technology and furnaces, the thermochemical carburisation process of alloyed carburising steels is used. This special heat treatment process requires specially developed vacuum oils for hardening, which have high purity, long-term stability and excellent degassing properties, which optimises the process times of thermochemical heat treatment.

WATER DILUTABLE POLYMER QUENCHANTS

Polymer quenchants are added to the quenching water to achieve the desired hardness in the heat treating process. The polymer in the solution builds up an insulating film on the hot metal surface, the thickness is in relation to the concentration of the solution, and provides a targeted reduction of the heat transfer coefficient of water and thereby causes a reduction of stress. The solution is incombustible due to the high water content with low emissions of mostly water vapour. Polymer grades are available for immersion and spray application, while other types can replicate oil quenching properties resulting in improved technical, safety and environmental parameters in heat treatment processes of metals.

SALT BATHS

A wide range of salts to suit baths for many heat treatment processes and different alloys or rubber are available. Essential advantages are, high flexibility, very uniform temperature spread and short holding time. Special salts are available for quenching, tempering, carburising, heat transfer or cleaning baths. They are used in diverse industries such as tool hardening and rubber curing where uniform heating and temperature control are critical to obtain the mechanical properties of the component.

CARBURISING PROTECTIVE PASTES

Innovative water based and conventional solvent based protective pastes are available for protection against carburisation of steel components in a gas atmosphere furnace, which is another important part of our heat treatment products range. The residues of the protective pastes are removed easily following heat treatment: either in aqueous cleaning solutions or mechanically. Pastes are formulated to work with a range of high temperatures and are resistant to the heating effect from different furnace designs.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Accelerated high performance quenching oils ISORAPID and MARQUENCH are used to harden components such as gears, fasteners and bearings while modern water dilutable polymer quenchants FEROQUENCH and AQUATENSID are used for hardening crankshafts, oil industry parts, forgings, shaft, bearings and many other applications.
