With the variety of heat transfer fluids available, it is not easy to choose the right product. Additionally, the huge variation in applications, markets and equipment using these fluids add to the complexity of choice. Wherever high or low temperatures have to be transferred in an industrial sense, PETROFER heat transfer fluids are used. Regardless of whether they are used for cooling or heating, our developments stand out due to their enormous oxidation stability and temperature resistance, benefiting customers by extending the replacement intervals and thus protecting the environment.

OUR EXPERTISE

PETROFER heat transfer fluids for die casting moulds, temperature control equipment and other heat transfer systems are used in applications ranging from metal forming to areas of the food industry. Our TRANSTHERM, ULTRA-FREEZE and AQUACOOL fluids are used for temperature control in moulds, machines, buildings and many peripheral systems, and can be used for both cooling and heating of machines and components. PETROFER heat transfer fluids offer excellent ageing resistance, temperature stability, reduced sludge formation for long life and economical process costs. Synthetic, mineral oil based and glycol based variants are all available.

Mineral oil based heat transfer fluids

Our TRANSTHERM heat transfer oils are based on high quality mineral oils. Their unparalleled formulation makes them suitable for use in closed heat transfer systems with unpressurised liquid circulation for flow temperatures up to a maximum of 320°C. The mineral oil based heat transfer fluids feature excellent ageing and oxidation resistance. In addition to die casting, the products are used in many other industrial sectors.

Synthetic heat transfer fluids

Synthetic based heat transfer fluids have the advantage of superior ageing resistance. Thus, an outstandingly long service life of the fluid is achieved. Due to their base and formulation, synthetic heat transfer fluids are suitable for maximum flow temperatures of up to 350°C and more.

Glycol based heat transfer fluids

In addition to mineral oil based and synthetic heat transfer fluids, there are other products that are used in the field of thermal energy movement by a liquid. There are the heat transfer fluids, based on glycol, which are water soluble, suitable for closed and open heat transfer systems and used, for example, in double walled tanks for the lost wax process. Furthermore, glycol based products such as our ULTRA-FREEZE AF 45 are used for cooling buildings or high speed spindles in metalworking machinery. In addition, the product can also be used in longwall structures in mining, or be used as an anti-freeze and anti-corrosion agent for the storage of hydraulic units and as a test fluid for cylinders, pumps and valves.

Water based heat transfer fluids

In addition, we have our AQUACOOL series, which ca be used for temperature control of induction furnaces and welding equipment. The products are supplied as concentrates and are diluted for use with water. The concentration depends on the construction materials, level of corrosion resistance needed and the heat transfer requirement. These fluids are economical in use and simple to control with a refractometer.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Heat transfer fluids are often used in die casting. Here equipment is used to both heat the die at start up and then restrict high temperatures building up during casting. In die casting machines, after a few weeks you can see the difference between inferior heat transfer fluids and PETROFER's TRANSTHERM heat transfer fluids. Customers have found the service life of our high quality fluids is significantly better than many competitor grades, resulting in reduced maintenance costs due to machine downtime. Furthermore, it should be kept in mind that oxidised products or products that do not have the temperature stabilities of TRANSTHERM fluids can cause the heat balance in the moulds to deviate from the calculated range and lead to casting quality problems.
