OUR PRODUCT RANGE IN DETAIL

Continuous casting technology is currently the most efficient method of casting steel worldwide. Consequently, more than 90 % of world steel is produced through the CC route. With the development of new markets, alloys and steel use applications, the challenges to produce steel at higher casting speeds meeting stringent quality demands have increased manifold. One of the most critical products used during continuous casting of steel to achieve the ever increasing demand for productivity and quality is the Continuous Casting Mould Release product.

MOULD OILS

PETROFER MOULD OIL series are designed to avoid adhesion of the molten steel in the mould during the continuous casting process. The long-term usage leads to an improvement in mould life, avoiding any surface quality problems, increases the quality of billet surface, blooms and slabs, decreases the labour cost and gives very good performance at high casting speeds. PETROFER MOULD OIL series are mineral oil free mould release lubricants, especially developed to use in a continuous casting process. These mould oils are formulated from high quality lubricants and additives. The products are nontoxic, biodegradable, and therefore reduce impact on human health and the environment.

CASTING POWDER AND GRANULES

Continuous Casting and starting powders/granules are formulated for low carbon, high carbon and peritectic steel grades. They are typically used for production of slab, thin slab, billet, bloom and beam blanks. The products are formulated to be free flowing and ensure consistent coating of the steel and mould, and avoid caking or blocking of the application equipment.

LADLE AND TUNDISH INSULATION COVER

Acidic and basic tundish covering powders and anti-inclusion compounds are designed to cover the top surface of the tundish. The use of these powders is critical in preventing the oxidation of the liquid steel and therefore improving the cast quality. These products provide thermal insulation and prevent reoxidation of the melt while being transferred around the plant.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

PETROFER’s mould fluxes provide benefits with respect to lubrication of copper moulds, preventing secondary oxidation, while providing melt insulation. They also promote absorption of non-metallic inclusions.

Products suitable for open casting of billets have been developed which provide benefits relating to; uniform heat extraction across the mould walls, improved rhombicity of billets and longer mould life. A range of passive insulating powder and granule covers for ladle, tundish and blast furnace launders – these products provide thermal insulation to the top surface of the molten metal thus preventing thermal losses by radiation. Neutral and Basic grades are available for steel ladles and tundishes. LOW SMOKE ladle cover is also available for the environmentally conscious customers. Basic fluxes are designed specifically to absorb Alumina Inclusions in critical steel grades during continuous casting.
